Könnyű elindulni a webhely építésének útján. Néhány alapvetű ismeret segítséget ad ehhez.
Mi az a Tartalomkezelő Rendszer?
A tartalomkezelő rendszer egy olyan szoftver, amely weboldalak készítését és karbantartását könnyíti meg azzal, hogy elválasztja a tartalom készítését annak webes megjelenítésétől.
Itt a tartalom adatbázisban tárolódik. A megjelenítést a sablon vezérli. A Joomla! szoftver összehozza a sablont és a tartalmat a weboldalak létrehozásánál.
Webes és adminisztrációs felület
A webhely két webhelyet takar. A webhelyet (webes felületnek is hívhatjuk) látja a látogató. Az adminisztrációs rész (más néven adminisztrációs felület) csak a webhelyet kezelő felhasználók érhetik el. Az adminisztrációs felület elérhető a "Webhely adminisztráció" linkre kattintással az "Ez a webhely" menüben vagy a webhely webcíme mögé illesztett /administrator útvonallal.
Az adaminisztrációs felületre a telepítés során megadott felhasználónévvel és jelszóval lehet bejelentkezni.
Bejelentkezés
A webes felületre a bejelentkező űrlapon keresztül vagy az "Ez a webhely" menüben levő bejelentkezési menülinkkel lehet. Itt is a telepítéskor során megadott felhasználónévvel és jelszóval lehet bejelentkezni. A bejelentkezés után lehet cikkeket létrehozni és szerkeszteni.
Cikk létrehozása
A bejelentkezés után egy új menü lesz látható. Új cikk létrehozásához a "Cikk beküldése" linkre kell kattintani ebben a menüben.
Az új cikk szerkesztőképernyője számos opcióval rendelkezik, de elég csak a címet és a tartalmat begépelni. Ahhoz, hogy a cikk könnyen megtalálható legyen, publikálni kell és hozzárendelni egy Joomla! kategóriához.

A bővítményekben a megjelenést a paraméterekkel lehet vezérelni. A paraméterek vezérelnek mindent a szerző nevének megjelenésétől kezdve a megtekinthetőségen át a listában megjelenő elemek számáig. A paraméterek vezérelnek mindent a szerző nevétől kezdve a megtekintésre jogosult felhasználókig.
Minden komponens paramétere megváltoztatható az eszköztár Opciók gombjával.
A paraméterek olyan egyedi elemhez is beállíthatók mint a cikk, a kapcsolat vagy a menülinkek.
Ha elégedettek vagyunk a megjelenéssel, akkor a paramétereket az alapértelmezett értékeken hagyhatjuk.

A második webhely jóval összetettebb és egy kis üzleti jellegű webhelyet mutat be, egy gyümölcsboltot.
Hasonló vagy összetettebb webhelyek készítéséhez valószínűleg további bővítmények szükségesek, amelyhez készíthetünk vagy vásárolhatunk sablont. Sok Joomla! felhasználó a beépített sablonok módosításával kezdi, ezekhez saját képekre és más dizájnelemre is szükség lehet.
